Discover Shore Coffee By The Coast

If you’re wandering along the seafront near Micklegate Road, you’ll likely stumble upon Shore Coffee By The Coast at Unit 11 Beach Street, Micklegate Rd, Felixstowe IP11 2GN, United Kingdom. I first popped in on a breezy Saturday morning after a long walk by the pier, craving something warm and comforting. What I found was more than just a decent flat white; it was one of those relaxed coastal cafés that quietly earns its reputation through consistency, quality, and genuinely friendly service.

The location alone gives it an edge. Beach Street in Felixstowe has become a bit of a local hotspot, with independent food spots set inside colourful shipping containers. That creative setup adds character, and Shore Coffee fits right in. You can grab your drink and sit outside with a sea view, which, according to VisitBritain tourism data, is one of the top factors influencing where people choose to dine in coastal towns. It makes sense-fresh air, ocean sounds, and good coffee are a winning combination.

Speaking of coffee, the menu covers all the staples: espresso, cappuccino, latte, mocha, and filter brews. I usually judge a café by its flat white, and theirs was smooth, well-balanced, and served at the right temperature-around 60-65°C, which the Specialty Coffee Association recommends as ideal for preserving flavour without scalding the milk. That attention to detail tells me the baristas know what they’re doing. On another visit, I tried their iced latte during a summer heatwave, and it was refreshingly bold without being bitter.

Food-wise, the selection is small but thoughtful. You’ll find pastries, cakes, and light bites that pair perfectly with a morning brew. One standout for me was a homemade brownie-dense, rich, and not overly sweet. Friends of mine swear by the toasted sandwiches, especially after a chilly walk along the promenade. It’s the kind of place where the menu doesn’t overwhelm you; instead, it focuses on doing a few things really well.

From a service perspective, the team deserves credit. I once watched them handle a sudden rush of customers when a nearby event let out. Orders were taken quickly, drinks were prepared efficiently, and no one seemed flustered. That level of coordination reflects good workflow behind the counter-clear roles, steady communication, and a streamlined preparation process. It’s small details like this that separate an average café from one people return to.

Reviews across local platforms consistently mention the welcoming vibe and quality coffee. While online reviews should always be read with a critical eye, patterns matter. When dozens of customers highlight friendly staff and reliable drinks, that consistency builds trust. In hospitality, repeat business is a powerful indicator of quality, and Shore Coffee seems to enjoy plenty of regulars.

Another point worth noting is cleanliness and transparency. The preparation area is visible, and everything appears well-maintained. Food safety standards in the UK are strict, overseen by local authorities under the Food Standards Agency guidelines. Although I don’t have access to their latest inspection rating, the overall hygiene practices I observed-glove use, clean surfaces, proper storage-were reassuring.

What I personally appreciate most is the atmosphere. It’s informal, laid-back, and free from the pretension you sometimes get in trendier coffee spots. Whether you’re meeting friends, working remotely for an hour, or simply enjoying a solo moment with a book, it feels comfortable. The coastal setting adds a calming backdrop that’s hard to replicate inland.

Of course, like any small independent café, seating can be limited during peak summer weekends, and you might have to wait a few extra minutes when it’s busy. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. Good places draw crowds.

All in all, this little coffee shop on Beach Street delivers exactly what you want from a seaside café: quality drinks, tasty bites, friendly faces, and a setting that makes you want to linger just a bit longer.

  • Great quick service by helpful polite staff. The coffee is phenomenal. I'm a big Starbucks fan, this easily beats it. Perfect rounded flavour, strong without being bitter. Great iced teas as well. I haven't ventured too much further on the menu but it's a stop everytime I'm there.

  • Excellent coffee that meets the taste. Quality shines through and it is definitely speciality coffee at its finest. Reasonable prices and a wide range of drinks (coffee and non coffee on offer). Friendly owner and staff as well and I'll be returning tomorrow before I leave.

  • This coffee shop is the best in town, the staff are extremely friendly and will always have a chat. I don’t think the coffees are made but sent down from heaven on the backs of cherubs! Full fat or skinny the coffees are always rich and creamy. Great people great product 10 / 10

  • I visit Shore regularly for a morning coffee before I walk on the Prom or during the weekend when I’m out with my family. I would go as far to say that they serve THE best coffee. They also have a great selection of savoury and sweet snacks…the Sausage Rolls are my favourite My daughter also loves their Milk Shakes. The staff are super friendly and you’re always greeted with a smile.

  • Popped in on Wednesday last week for a pre work coffee as we were staying in the area and a local source had highly recommended this place to us. We arrived 10 minutes before it opened but the owner greeted us and let us in to order, lovely friendly lady recommended the cinnamon bun cake to me and made me a beautiful flat white, whilst my friend and colleague had the carrot cake, really good tasting coffee definitely up there with some of my favourite coffee places in London. Will definitely be returning once back in Felixstowe.
